Enslaved - Frost (1994)

Enslaved - Frost

Artist: Enslaved
Album: Frost
Year: 1994
Genre: Black and/or viking metal
Quality: 320kbps

1. Frost
2. Loke
3. Fenris

8. Wotan
9. Isöders Dronning (Queen Of The Ice Desolates)

115 MB

From the icy, chilling intro instrumental through stories about Nordic mythological creatures and characters and cold mountaintops, this is a must-have through-and-through. Yggdrasil (ig-dra-sil) is about a gigantic tree at the center of Norse mythology, also known as Odin's horse. Gylfaginning is about a king who is tricked by the Norse gods, and I think is about the creation and destruction of the world that the gods created. It even says "VIKING METAL" on the back of the inside booklet. Fast as hell at times, melodic at others, not the cleaned-up progressive metal sound their newer fans are used to. The drummer, Trym, joined Emperor after this album.

Behemoth - Evangelion (2009)

Behemoth - Evangelion

This is coming out over a month before its street date, so understand the quality may be sub par and the ending sounds like it might have been cut off sooner than it is supposed to. I will certainly be buying this when it comes out August 11! If you liked Behemoth's previous two albums, you will most likely love this one too. It's right up the same alley with intense (tastefully) triggered drumming, demonic vocals and church-crushing guitar blasts.

Genre: Blackened death metal

Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter (1999)

This album marked a big change in the direction for Immortal compared to their earlier albums as it had a "cleaner" sound and more a thrash one as well compared to the straight up lo-fi black metal they had been doing up to the previous album, "Blizzard Beasts." It was well-received by both old fans and critics alike and their next albums had similar sounds. They also have another one coming out later this year!

Artist: Immortal
Album: At The Heart Of Winter

Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane (1995)

Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane

ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. I only have the original CD with eight tracks so I don't have the reissue tracks from the later releases but am working on purchasing or just downloading them later and putting them up if anyone wants them. This is ripped from my own CD so there is a SLIGHT possibility there will be a pop or skip, if you find one PLEASE let me know so I can upload a clean track as this isn't a hard album to find online.

Dissection is a fun band to read about, mostly due to their goofy former lead singer Jon Nödtveidt, who shot himself in the name of Satan inside a lit circle of candles on August 16, 2006.

Artist: Dissection
Album: Storm Of The Light's Bane
Year: 1995
Genre: Black/death metal

Sigh - Hangman's Hymn (2007)

Sigh - Hangman's Hymn

Japan's Sigh started as a black metal band; one of the first few in Japan, as most at the time were coming out of places like Norway and Sweden. They went in a more thrash and death metal sound through the 90's and into the 2000's they adopted a far more experimental sound, now often being labeled as "avant-garde." Their singer, Mirai Kawashima, has described the style of the music as a "German thrash-metal-meets-symphonies" style. The band added a second vocalist and saxophonist, Dr. Mikannibal, a female recruit. Samples from "Me-Devil" were used in the trailer for the documentary "Global Metal." Released on The End Records.

Artist: Sigh
